A Work of Mercy: Visiting the sick

Work of mercy SSVM Lithuania-

“The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities.”* For Christmas our girls group “Daughters of Mary” did a small work of mercy by visiting the sick of our parish in Pumpėnai. On December 29th we went walking in the mist of snow and minus temperatures through the streets of Pumpėnai. The girls made cookies and cards to give to the people as Christmas gifts. The girls were full of good spirit and Christmas joy. There were many reactions from the elderly most of them were very surprised and glad to receive a visit. Some even shed tears as the girls sung “We wish you a Merry Christmas.”

To end the festivities we eat lunch together and played games.

As Bl. Teresa of Calcutta said “Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” The girls were able to bring God’s kindness to the homebound with their joyful smiles and they themselves were able to see God in the sick and suffering.

Please pray for our mission in Lithuania and for the children and parishioners God has given us to serve.
